Kane sends two wrestlers to regionals

CLARION – The Kane Wolves will be sending two wrestlers to the Northwest Regional Championships after the conclusion of the District 9 Individual Wrestling Championships held Saturday at Clarion University.
Justin Westerburg at 145 pounds and Austin Hulings at 195 pounds are the two regional qualifiers for Kane.
Westerburg made it to regionals the hard way after losing his first-round match. Westerburg won two matches Friday just to make it to the consolation quarterfinals.

Owls still fascinate me wherever my camera may take me. I will never get tired of searching for these varied birds of prey. What’s amazing about owls is the fact that they live among us, but are seldom seen. The park right across from my house has quite an owl population that few people ever get to see. There are great-horned owls, barred owls, and screech owls living only feet from people’s everyday life, and the average person may never see one.

2 Kane athletes in prestigious track meet

EDINBORO – Two Kane High School athletes have qualified to compete Saturday in a prestigious track meet at Edinboro University.
It's the indoor track championship for the Tri-State Track Coaches Association (TSTCA).
Kane's competitors are sophomore Alyssa Zampogna in the triple jump and Griffin Greenawalt in the shot-put.
Zampogna qualified with a leap of 32 feet, 3 3/4 inches in the triple jump. Greenawalt qualified with a mark of 45 feet, 8 inches in the shot-put.

Lady Wolves ousted by Lady Bulldogs

CLARION – A second-quarter scoring drought would be too much to overcome as Kane lost 42-31 to Redbank Valley in the girls basketball Class AA quarterfinals Wednesday night at Clarion High School.
After staying with the Lady Bulldogs in the first quarter, the Lady Wolves were outscored 12-2 in the second quarter by Redbank Valley, the No. 2 seed in the District 9 bracket.
"We dug ourselves too much of a hole to get out of it by the end of the game," Kane coach Dave Kiehl said. "We were down 16, 17 and got it down within seven or eight there."'

Kentucky came out and took care of business against one of the SEC cellar dwellers. The Wildcats opened up a 25 point lead before the half was over and then put in in cruise control for the second half. Willie Cauley-Stein led the balanced scoring effort by Kentucky with 14 points.

The Kane Varsity Cheerleading team kept on in their winning ways at the Champion Cheer Central Red Hot Cheer and Dance Competition in Clarion this past Sunday.

Kane wrestlers excel at Jr. High D9 tournament

The Kane Middle School wrestling team competed at the Junior High District 9 Tournament held Saturday in Brockway.
Three eighth-graders, Aiden Hulings, Noah Blankenship, and Alec English, placed first in the tournament earning a medal and District 9 champion T-shirt.
Also participating were Jake Silvis, James Flemming, Ty Stahli, Teddy Race, Adam Sicher, Dominic Cartwright, Dakota Menteer, Christian Whisner, Lane Hillard, Aiden Hulings, Alec English, Noah Blankenship and Cameron Whisner.

Kane girls lose at DCC in league playoffs, 42-26

DuBOIS – Not this time.
The Kane girls basketball team rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit Tuesday to defeat Brookville in its final regular-season home game.
They dug themselves into another hole Friday in an Allegheny Mountain League (AML) semifinal playoff game at DuBois Central Catholic (DCC).
They couldn't climb out.
The Cardinals-- the No. 1 team in the AML South-- outscored the Lady Wolves in every quarter en route to a 42-26 victory over Kane-- the No. 2 team in the AML North.

Ridgway wrestling defeats Kane on Senior Night

Ridgway wrestling took advantage of seven forfeits to help take a 52-24 win over Kane Thursday night at Ridgway Area High School on Senior Night.
Of the seven matches wrestled, Kane won five on the mat.

Winners are named in Kane Elks Hoop Shoot

February 13, 2015

The Kane Elks Hoop Shoot was held last Sunday at the Kane Middle School gym.
There were 20 participants overall, each shooting 25 foul shots.  
Winners from each age division are advancing to the District Hoop Shoot on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Warren Area High School.
If the Kane winner is not able to attend the district shoot, the second place winner has the opportunity to compete. If participants win at the district level, they will move forward to the Elks State Hoop Shoot held in State College March 7.
