Kane competes at Schenley Park, cuts it close in Brookville

The Kane boys’ cross country team competed and placed 11th out of the 16 A and AA teams at the Red, White and Blue Invitational at Pittsburgh’s Schenley Park.
With a field of over 750 runners, Hunter Yasurek led the way for the Wolves placing 234th overall and running a time of 19:35. Next to finish was Chris Udovich, who competed for the first time on Saturday. Udovich completed the course in 20:13. Finishing next for the wolves was Andy Swartwood, who closed out his day in 20:43.

Kane girls soccer team wins 1-0 in 2nd OT

Robert Mosier won't soon forget his first win as the head coach of the Kane High girls soccer team.
Tori Schleicher scored on the game's only breakaway Wednesday to give Kane a 1-0 win over Smethport in sudden death overtime. It was Kane's home opener.
Taking a feed from freshman Alyssa Lima-Lopez, Schleicher dribbled in all alone for about 25 yards before blasting a kick into the top right corner of the net for the lone goal. Smethport goalie Baylee Brien was helpless as the winning kick sailed over her head and her outstretched arms.

Kane boys lose high-scoring match to Ridgway, 8-5

The Kane High boys soccer team hosted Ridgway Tuesday in a match that featured plenty of back-and-forth action and lots and lots of goals.
Ridgway prevailed 8-5 as senior Justin Kinkead scored five goals to lead the Elkers to their fourth win in five matches in the past seven days.
Chris Cummings, a senior, scored three goals for Kane, including one midway through the first half that gave the Wolves their only lead at 2-1. 

Kane falls to ECC in 3 sets

ST. MARYS – Although they played a strong two sets, the Lady Wolves fell short of a win at Elk County Catholic as the Crusaders took the match 25-17, 25-18, 25-3.
"I was very pleased with what the girls did in the first two sets," said Kane head varsity volleyball coach Judy Kessler. "ECC is a very solid, strong, undefeated team and we hung with them and were able to generate an offense. We passed well, served well, and attacked the ball well. And, we had to play without two of our starters because of injuries."

Kane girls soccer lost 8-1 to Ridgway in the Lady Wolves' season opener at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School in Ridgway Monday afternoon.
Julie Alford led the Lady Elkers with four goals while Caitlin Viglione and Rachel Smith had two goals each for Ridgway.

Wolves rout Hubbers, 42-6 behind English’s 4 TDs

The Kane Wolves’ offense was unable to punch the ball in the end zone in last week’s season-opening win over the Cameron County Red Raiders. The Wolves’ “o” had no such trouble in last night’s 42-6 win over the Smethport Hubbers, scoring twice in just over a minute midway through the first quarter at Paul R Miller Stadium. The Wolves built on the momentum and jumped out to take a 35-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

KCC Women's Open

On Tuesday, Aug. 12, despite the torrential downpours, the Kane Country Club Women's League held their annual Open Golf Tournament and thanks to the Women's League members and their sponsors it was again a huge success.

PTO event is set Saturday

The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at the Kane Elementary School will host a “back-to-school” activity on Saturday at Evergreen Park in Kane.
Events include:
*9:30 a.m.—2-mile walk.
*9:45 a.m.—5-kilometer run.
*11 a.m.—Kids Costume Run.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday near the tennis courts on the Chestnut Street side of the park. The cost is $10.
Participants are encouraged to bring their families and a picnic lunch. The lunch will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday in the park.

Kane volleyball team opens season with 4-set win over DCC

The Kane Volleyball team welcomed the DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals to the Wolves’ Den on Thursday afternoon to open the 2014 season. Coach Judy Kessler’s Lady Wolves defeated DCC in four sets, 25-19, 18-25, 25-17 and 25-19.

Missed chances hurt Wolves in 3-1 loss

Ridgway boys soccer moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 3-1 victory over the Kane Wolves on a hot Thursday afternoon.
Ridgway opened the game quickly and had a 1-0 lead in the third minute as freshman Alec McManus dribbled home a shot about 10 yards out and was able to bury it in the right corner for the game's first goal.
