Celebration honors new state champions

The Elk County Catholic High School Lady Crusader softball team was welcomed home Friday night by a parade of emergency response vehicles that led them on a parade through town with their sirens blaring and lights flashing. When the newly-crowned state champions finally reached ECCHS, a number of supporters were waiting for them.
After an extended celebration in the parking lot that featured lots of hugs, congratulatory remarks, and the release of a few maroon and gold balloons, the group moved into the school's auditorium for a brief ceremony.

Lady Crusader softball wins PIAA Class A Championship

UNIVERSITY PARK — STATE CHAMPS.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team captured the 2015 PIAA Class A Softball championship Friday afternoon at Beard Field at Nittany Lion Softball Park on the campus of Penn State University by defeating the Conemaugh Valley Lady Blue Jays 7-0.
Abbey Bauer threw a no-hitter for Elk Catholic. She went all seven innings walking two, hitting one and striking out five.
"Abbey (Bauer) threw a great game and the defense behind her played extremely well," said ECCHS coach Digger O'Dell.

English to play football for Mercyhurst

John English will be trading in the Red and Blue for Green and White this fall. The Wolves’ standout running back will be continuing his football career this fall as a member of the Mercyhurst Lakers. English accepted a scholarship offer from the PSAC team a little more than a month prior to his KHS graduation last Friday night.

KHS holds 3rd annual dodgeball tournament

The Kane Area High School held its Third Annual Dodgeball Tournament on Thursday. The afternoon finals pitted two-time runner-up Super Troopers against the Wolves of Ball Street in a best of three series. The Super Troopers won the title 2-1 to take the championship. Members of the Super Troopers were juniors Andy Bundy, Shane Rolick, Tyler Rolick, Chris Udovich, Jake Shrubb and Hunter Yasurek.
Event coordinator Todd Silfies said approximately $700 was raised at the event. Proceeds from the day will be donated to Kane Area Revitalization Enterprise’s Amphitheater project.

Kane High honors its student athletes at annual awards ceremony

The Kane All Sports Boosters Club held its annual awards ceremony Wednesday evening in the KHS auditorium. Longtime track and field and football coach Jim Sirianni was inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame while James Lingenfelter and Taylor Morgan were named Kane High’s Male and Female Athletes of the Year. Taking home Scholar Athlete Awards were Emily Truden, Tyler Blankenship and Dillon Mattis.

Kane High seniors awarded scholarships at annual ceremony

A number of seniors were presented with scholarships at Wednesday evening’s Kane All Sports Boosters Club Award Ceremony. In addition to the scholarships, the awards for the annual Outstanding Male and Female Athletes of the Year, the Scholar Athletes of the Year and Coach of the Year were presented.
James Lingenfelter and Taylor Morgan were named Kane High’s Male and Female Scholar Athletes of the Year. Lingenfelter lettered in football (3), baseball (4) and wrestling (4), while Morgan was a three-year letter winner in volleyball and a four-year letter winner in basketball.

Anderson medals at state meet, Newton advances to semis

Kane’s Savannah Anderson tied for eighth place in Friday’s PIAA AA girls’ pole vault at Shippensburg University. The Lady Wolves’ senior, the only Kane girl to qualify for the state championship meet, cleared 10’0” to tie Tamaqua’s Morgan Boyle and Wilmington’s Julia Strobel for the final spot on the medal stand. The event was won by Salisbury Township’s Kaitlyn Toman with a jump of 11’06”.
According to Kane girls’ coach Jim Sirianni, Anderson becomes the first girl in Kane High School history to earn a state medal in the pole vault.

11 Kane athletes ready for state meet

Ten members of the Kane boys’ track and field team and Savannah Anderson, a member of the Kane girls’ track and field team, will be leaving for Shippensburg University tomorrow to compete in the PIAA Championship meet.

Kane boys win 4th straight D9 AA track title

The Kane boys’ track and field team made it four D9 titles in a row on Friday, outdistancing runner-up Karns City 91-73. The Wolves had solid performances from their entire team to help them return to the top of the podium. In all, 10 Kane boys earned a trip to the PIAA State Championship meet with a first- or second-place finish in their events.

Savannah Anderson advances to state meet for Kane girls

May 15, 2015

Senior Savannah Anderson will represent the Kane girls’ track and field team at next week’s PIAA State Championship meet. Anderson finished second in the pole vault by clearing 9’09”, just three inches behind the event winner, ECC’s Hannah Onink. Teammate Angela Cecchetti also medaled in the event, taking fourth with a jump of 8’0”.
