Benefit for VanGiesen Patriot Award

December 17, 2011

Mike Whittemore of Kane is the winner of a gun awarded at a benefit for the Staff Sgt. Kenneth R. VanGiesen Patriot Award at Kane Area High School. Frank Sirianni (center) is chairman of the Patriot Award project for the Kane Lions Club. Helping to select the winner are VanGiesen's niece Hannah Gullifer (left) and nephew Isaac Gullifer (right), both of Kane. Robbie Anderson of Sheffield carved the stock of the rifle, which he donated for the fundraiser for the Patriot Award. The award is named for the Kane soldier who was killed in July in Afghanistan while serving with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. The award given at commencement goes to Kane High graduates who are entering military service. Persons wishing to donate to the award fund may contact Sirianni or any member of the Lions Club.
