Betty Marie O'Donnell Nortum, 91, died Monday morning, Sept. 19, 2011 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Nov. 15, 1919 in Erie, she was the daughter of Dr. John J. and Marie White O'Donnell.Â She was married to Robert Nortum, who preceded her in death.
A longtime resident of Erie as well as Wilcox and Kane, she was a graduate of Mercyhurst Preparatory School in Erie and was employed for many years by the Erie Public Library.Â She was a talented artist, authored short stories and poems, and was an avid reader.Â She loved her family, animals, books and chocolate, and the Allegheny mountains held a special place in her heart.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol (Chuck) Lehan Richards of Charlotte, N.C.; six stepchildren, Karen (Mike) Smail, Patty (Dale) Cook and Brad (Vanessa) Nortum, all of Wilcox, Kathy (Fred) Launer of Ridgway, Linda Valimont of Johnsonburg, and Robert Nortum of Smethport.Â Fourteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by a foster sister, Marian Seaman.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Sheffield Cemetery with the rev. David Pflieger, chaplain of The Lutheran Home at Kane, officiating.
