Blood donor reaches 18-gallon milestone

Louise Schmidt reached the 18-gallon milestone Monday when she donated blood at the American Red Cross Bloodmobile stop at the First United Methodist Church in Kane.She has donated blood for many years.A total of 27 full units of blood were collected during the six-hour Bloodmobile visit at the church's Barlett Hall. The goal was 28 units.Judith M. Haight of Ludlow, the volunteer chairman of the blood drive, said 30 would-be donors showed up to give blood. However, three were rejected due to medical reasons.Paul Huckabone of Kane was a first-time donor at the Bloodmobile stop.The King's Daughters group from the First Baptist Church in Kane provided sandwich spreads.See the full article by purchasing the Feb. 9 edition of The Kane Republican.
