A 14-year-old boy was injured Tuesday evening when the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) he was operating collided with a westbound vehicle on Route 321 at Apollo Drive in East Kane, Wetmore Township.
A medical helicopter transported the boy to a hospital in Buffalo, N.Y. The extent of his injuries were unknown Tuesday evening.
The four persons in the vehicle did not sustain major injuries, according to Kane Fire Chief Tim Holt. The vehicle flipped onto its side and the ATV and boy were trapped beneath the wreckage, sources said.
State Police Troopers Dale Vukovich and Ted Race were at the scene along with Kane Borough Police Officer Derrick Snyder.
The Kane Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene at 7:32 p.m. Tuesday, Holt said.
The firefighters set up a landing zone for the helicopter in a field adjacent to the Highlander Energy building on Apollo Drive.
According to sources, the boy was operating a red ATV when he crossed Route 321 from the south side and came into the path of the northbound vehicle.
