Carl Melvin Davidson, 87, loving husband of Susan Jane Landfair Davidson, of 207 Amethyst Way, Seneca, S.C., died Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Cottingham Hospice House of Seneca, S.C.
A native of Kane, Mr. Davidson was the son of the late Hugh and Margaret Brigger Davidson. He was a veteran of the US Navy Amphibious Force where he took part in the D-Day landings on Omaha Beach during WWII.
He had 55 years experience in furniture manufacturing, working for companies such as Ethan Allen and Crawford Furniture, and established an outstanding reputation as a furniture manufacturing consultant on a national basis.
He was a member of the English Walhalla Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and especially enjoyed his work in the volunteer ministry. He was the current president of the Keowee Angler’s Fishing Club. In addition to fishing, he was an avid sports fan and rooted especially for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Davidson is survived by a daughter, Carla Ann Davidson of Traveler’s Rest, S.C.; a son, Carl Allen Davidson and wife Paige of Mayville, N.Y.; and two grandchildren, Casey and Carter Davidson.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davidson was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters, making him the longest living of eight children.
A Memorial service will be held Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 5 p.m. at the Walhalla Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 671 South Highway 11, West Union, S.C.
The family will receive friends from 4-5 p.m., prior to the service, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oconee Hospice of the Foothills, ATTN: Foundation Office, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, S.C. 29672.
