SMETHPORT – The North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission is involved with several activities affecting McKean County.
This is the message delivered Tuesday by Eric Bridges, executive director of the six-county commission based in Ridgway.
Bridges outlined the commission’s work in a three-page report presented Tuesday at a meeting of the McKean County Board of Commissioners.
In his report, Bridges pointed out that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has selected McKean County to be “the ‘pilot’ county for their local road/bridge data collection initiative.”
“As part of this effort, a baseline set of data was collected on every local road in McKean County that was not part of PennDOT’s liquid fuels data base,” Bridges said in his report.
Bridges said “approval is expected in August” for a flood management project in Port Allegany. He said the federal Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has been asked to contribute $200,000 for the project.
Bridges said North Central has been involved in putting together funding for the multi-tenant building at the Bradford Regional Airport. He said the airport is situated as a “key critical economic location.”
Work on the 30,000-square-foot building is “nearly finished,” Bridges said in his report.
The North Central director pointed out that the commission played a key role in the development of the study for potential trails over the corridor for the defunct Knox and Kane Railroad.
“The feasibility study considered the benefits and potential impacts of a trail system, environmental concerns and public and private ownership of land,” Bridges said. He said the four-county study also included “recommendations and construction cost projects for implementation.”
