SMETHPORT – At a time when hand-held electronic devices wide-screen TVs are common in many households, McKean County still has homeless people who sleep in cars or tents in the woods.
The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Bradford handles this homeless crisis for the county.
For the year ending June 30, the YWCA provided temporary housing for 75 women and 42 children at its shelter on the second floor of its building on West Corydon Street.
“We’re always full and we have a waiting list,” Amy Pierce, YWCA executive director, said Tuesday at a meeting of the county Board of Commissioners.
