David F. Ferry
David F. Ferry, 91, formerly of 104 Janeway St., Kane, died Thursday afternoon, Aug. 25, 2011 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.Born Feb. 18, 1920 in Gilfoyle, Forest County, he was the son of John and Clara Greeley Ferry. On Sept. 10, 1942 in Jamestown, N.Y., he married Fern I. Anderson, who died in 1996.Mr. Ferry served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 112th Infantry as a rifleman and cook, and received the Purple Heart for wounds received in The Battle of the Bulge, plus several other medals.He worked for the C.C.C. for three years, then as a serviceman for Bentz Furniture of Kane for 32 years, and finally in maintenance at the Kane Community Hospital for three years, from which he retired.A member of The Presbyterian Church, he also belonged to the Mountain Grange #1307, and was a member and four-year commander of American Legion Post #250, all in Kane.Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Kalinosky of Phillipsburg; a son, Dan Ferry of Nokesville, Va.; two grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death, besides his wife and parents, by a grandson Jeffrey A.
