Dolores "Dorie" Mays, 72, of 23 Woodpile Drive, Westline, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
Born March 28, 1939, in DuBois, she was a daughter of Stanley and Mary Meholick Sunealitis. She was married to David Mays who preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters, Christine (Daryl) Watson of Broomfield, Colo., Jessica (Vaughn Nystrom) Mays of Kane and Jolene (James Jr.) Hallock of Kushequa; two sons, David (Carol) Mays of Westline and Jeffrey Mays of Columbus, Ohio; four granddaughters, Allison Watson, Ashley Hallock, Samantha Stewart and Lindsey Mays; two grandsons, Nicholas Watson and Joshua Hallock; two great-granddaughters, Adrionna Peffer and Chesnea Stewart; two sisters, Nancy Royer of DuBois and Rosemarie Vaux; two brothers, Thomas Sunealitis of Lakeland, Fla. and Jerome Sunealitis of Brookville; a sister-in-law, Betty Sunealitis of Reynoldsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death, besides her husband and parents, was a brother, Stanley "Sonny" Sunealitis.
Dorie found true happiness in her family which she kept close to her heart through a large collection of photographs. The largest portion of her photographs includes her grandchildren who represent her finest work and greatest source of pride. She enjoyed living her life close to nature with a profound love of gardening and animals of all types. She will be honorably missed by her formidable adversary, the North American Black Bear, whom she victoriously stared down on various occasions as she ventured home from the Westline Inn where she served as a waitress for 45 years.
Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today (Monday, March 26). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mt. Jewett with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor of St. Callistus Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be at McKean Memorial Park.
