Dust-- not snow-- has been issue for Highland roads
JAMES CITY – Through the first 10 days of the New Year, the Highland Township road crew has had little snow to plow. But, due to unseasonable weather, there is another problem facing residents who live on dirt roads. That problem is dust-- usually an issue in the warmer months of the year."We have a dust problem," Township Supervisor Charlie Vaughn said Wednesday at a meeting of the Board of Supervisors at the township building in James City. "This is an unusual problem for this time of the year."Vaughn, who also serves as the township roadmaster, blamed the dust problem on "freak weather."Vaughn said the main problem with dust is in Sackett and along Pig's Ear Road. Vaughn said there is heavy truck traffic on Pig's Ear Road and Owl's Nest Road due to the development of Marcellus Shale natural gas wells near Owl's Nest.Seneca Resources, the exploration division of Buffalo-based National Fuel Gas, is developing the Marcellus Shale wells, Vaughn said. He said many of the trucks are "hauling stone" for use in the development of the wells.See full article by purchasing the Jan. 12 edition of The Kane Republican.Highland TownshipBoard of SupervisorsWhen: Wednesday, Feb. 8Where: Township building, James CityTime: 4 p.m.
