Eagles club flies high with Kane community service

January 21, 2012

Photo by Ted Lutz – Barb Gadley-Cheeks, secretary for the Kane Eagles Club, shows off enlarged photos of some of the activities sponsored by the club each year. Because of its heavy community involvement, the club is being honored as the 2012 Kane Chamber of Commerce "business-of-the-year."

"People Helping People" is more than a motto for the Kane Eagles club.
It's a reality.
The club is very involved in community service and in donating money to help Kane children, senior citizens and the needy.
"Being able to help people is very rewarding," club Secretary Barb Gadley-Cheeks said. "When you join the Eagles, you're going to be helping the community. That's just what Eagles do."
The Kane club is part of the international Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) founded in 1898. The Kane chapter-- called an "Aerie"-- was formed in 1903.
The non-profit Eagles organization says it unites its members "in the spirit of liberty, truth, justice and equality to make human life more desirable." The FOE has more than 1,400 local "aeries" in the U.S. and Canada.
The Kane Eagles club along Chase Street at Bayard Street has 316 members. The Kane Eagles Auxiliary, formed in 2003, now has 120 members.
Recognizing the club for its community service, the Kane Chamber of Commerce has named the Kane Eagles as the recipient of the annual "business-of-the-year" award.
The Chamber will honor the Eagles club at its banquet Thursday at the Kane Country Club. At the same banquet, the Chamber will honor the late Jim Salvamoser as its "citizen-of-the-year." Salvamoser, a longtime Kane councilman and community leader, died unexpectedly last month.
For information on banquet tickets, contact the Chamber at 837-6565.
Some of the annual projects for the Eagles and its Auxiliary include:
*Presents For Patients.
*Secret Santa.
