Evacuation is believed to be largest ever in county

The evacuation of 1,000 Kane residents Wednesday following a tanker truck rollover is believed to be the largest ever in McKean County.“It was probably the largest evacuation,” County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Bruce Manning said Thursday. “I can’t remember anything bigger.”Manning, who was on the scene Wednesday and returned Thursday to Kane to confer with Kane fire chief Tim Holt, said he believes the evacuation exceeded a movement of residents in 1972 due to flooding from Hurricane Agnes.
