Fatal crash in St. Marys on Bucktail Road

ST. MARYS – The St. Marys City Police Department reports investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Bucktail Road (SR 120) on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 11:15 a.m. that claimed the life of Frederick K. Beck, age 74, of Emporium.
Police report that a 2008 Jeep operated by Beck was traveling westbound on Bucktail Road, approaching a curve in the roadway. A 2002 Freightliner single-unit box truck operated by Michael L. Barr, 57, of Kersey, was traveling eastbound on Bucktail Road approaching the same curve.
The Jeep crossed into the oncoming lane for unknown reasons. The Jeep and Freightliner collided head-on in the eastbound lane.
The Jeep moved across the roadway and into a driveway on the north side of the roadway and came to rest.
The Freightliner moved into the eastbound ditch and came to rest. Damage to both vehicles was severe.
Barr was not injured. Beck was pronounced dead at the scene by the Elk County Coroner's Office.
Police were assisted at the scene by the Crystal Fire Department, St. Marys Area Ambulance Service, and PennDOT.
