Frederick "Fritz" A. Zampogna

Frederick "Fritz" A. Zampogna, 96, of  314 Kearney St., Kane, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at his residence.    
Born Sept. 25, 1915, in Westline, he was a son of the late Joseph and Theresa Costerella Zampogna. On April 14, 1945, in Kane, he married Marjorie M. Bressler who survives.  
Fritz was a loving husband and father who enjoyed being around his family. He loved to cook, especially spaghetti and meat balls on Sundays. Additionally, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening and canning and eating hot peppers.   
As a self-employed carpenter, Fritz remodeled many homes in the Kane area. He also built roll top desks, bread boxes and gun cabinets for his family and friends.  As an accomplished accordion player, he played in his band the Mel-O-Tones for many years and after his retirement continued to play at various nursing homes in the area.   
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Barbara J. McDermott and Debra A. (Barry "Mac") McQuillen of Kane; a son, James L. (Maryclaire) Zampogna of Fulton, N.Y.; six grandchildren, James, Patrick, Joshua, Edward, Renee and Jill; six great-grandchildren, Katelynn, Madeline, Dominic, Geena, Trevor and Olivia; three sisters, Theresa Zampogna and Donna (David) Mann of Erie and Angeline (John) McCandless of Kane; a brother, Joseph (Janice) Zampogna of Clarence Center, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.   
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Manfrey and Mary Chiesa; and four brothers, Anthony "Tony" Zampogna, Harry Zampogna, Dominic Zampogna and Michael Zampogna.  
Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and again at the gathering space of St. Callistus Church on Saturday from 9-10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Callistus Cemetery.
