Fund builds for VanGiesen memorial at park

The fund is building for the purchase and installation of a new memorial stone for the "point" at Evergreen Park in Kane.
The stone is for "Operation Enduring Freedom" in Afghanistan.
The stone will carry the name of Sgt. Staff Ken VanGiesen, a Kane native killed in Afghanistan last July while serving with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
The Kane Eagles Club has purchased the stone. Plans call for the installation of the stone before Memorial Day in May.
Several local clubs and individuals already have donated to the fund for the stone, according to Barb Gadley-Cheeks, secretary for the Eagles.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Kane has donated $2,700. A previous article incorrectly listed this donation at $500.
The Kane Lions Club has donated $500, Gadley-Cheeks said. She said the Kane Rotary Club recently donated $1,000 for the project.
Individuals also have contributed to the fund, Gadley-Cheeks said. Other Kane clubs and individuals are planning to donate, she said.
