These members of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard unit based at the Kane Armory are serving in the funeral detail for their friend and comrade-- Staff Sgt. Kenneth VanGiesen, also a member of the unit. The group includes, left to right seated: Private First Class Kelly Thompson of McKean, alternate pall bearer; Sergeant First Class Kenneth Overly of Harrisville, the non-commissioned officer-in-charge; Specialist Johnathan Brown of Tidioute, pall bearer; and Specialist Angeline Barnish of Allegany, N.Y., alternate bugler; back row: Specialist Robert Clark of Sigel, pall bearer; Staff Sergeant John Gillespie of Russell, pall bearer; Sergeant David Sayers of Lake City, pall bearer; Specialist Nathan Brown of Tidioute, pall bearer; and Staff Sergeant Robert Mika of Mt. Jewett, pall bearer. The Browns are twin brothers. The funeral detail went Wednesday morning to the Bradford Airport to transfer the body of the soldier killed in Afghanistan from a chartered plane to a hearse for the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home in Kane. The detail will play a key role Thursday in the funeral service at Kane Area High School and the burial at Gibbs Hill Cemetery near Ludlow.
