Gannon University of Erie this fall will be offering college classes in Kane.
The classes will lead to a two-year Associate’s Degree in either business administration or humanities and social sciences (liberal arts).
Gannon is offering the classes through a “cooperative agreement” with the Education Consortium of the Upper Allegheny (ECUA).
The college classes will be held at the Kane Middle School on West Hemlock Avenue. The “computer lab” in the school will be one of classrooms used for the program.
“Open House” for the college program will be held Monday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Kane Middle School. Gannon officials and financial aid representatives will be available during the two-hour period to discuss the program with area residents.
Credits earned during the Kane classes are transferable to all four-year colleges.
Dr. Maryann Anderson, superintendent of the Kane Area School District, said Wednesday that the college classes to be held in Kane this fall “could lead to other opportunities” for local college programs.
She said the ECUA is “responding to a need” to provide college classes in the area. Through the ECUA, Gannon will be offering other college classes this fall in St. Marys, Coudersport and Meadville.
“Hopefully, this program will grow and become a stable part of education in Kane,” Anderson said.
Duane A. Vicini, president of the ECUA, said this “innovative partnership” with Gannon would enable area residents to receive an Associate’s Degree “for only $12,000.”
“The classes to be offered are of high quality and are very affordable,” he said.
