Gertrude C. Frey Sleeman

Gertrude C. Frey Sleeman, 92, of Youngsville, and formerly a resident of Clarendon, passed away on Monday, Oct. 31, 2011 at the Rouse Warren County Home.She was born April 4, 1919, in Clarendon, the daughter of the late Edward and Lina Marie Stauffer Frey. Gertrude was a lifelong resident of Clarendon and was a long time member of the Clarendon Trinity United Methodist Church and the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club in Lakewood, N.Y.  Gertrude was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed playing bingo and scrabble.  She was an accomplished seamstress who sewed clothing for her children and herself and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.She is survived by her daughter, Linda Jones and her husband, Gene, of Brocton, N.Y.; three sons, Edward Sleeman and his wife Barbara, of Kane, Thomas Sleeman and his wife Margaret, of Warren, and Gary Sleeman and his wife Lorraine, of Clarendon; one sister, Mrs. Mildred Buerkle, of Warren; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jean Fisher, of Monroeville and Mrs. Miriam Frey of Concord, Calif.; three granddaughters, Dawn Melillo, of Brockport, Jennifer Sleeman, of Kane, and Tonya L. Sleeman, of North Carolina; two grandsons, Sean Sleeman, of Pittsburgh, and Garrett Sleeman, of Warren; two step-grandchildren, Brian Olson, of Pittsburgh, and Pamela McMillen, of Erie; 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a longtime friend, George C. Mong.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John W. Sleeman, who passed away in November 1996; three brothers, Edward, Emil, and Frances Frey; a grandson, Matthew C. Jones; and a step-granddaughter, Sonya Olson.Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 from, 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held there on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Martin Reynolds, pastor, Clarendon, Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating.Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.The family suggests memorials to the Clarendon Trinity United Methodist Church, Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department, or Hospice of Warren County.
