Property-owners in the Kane Area School District now can pay their taxes in three equal installments rather than all at once.
Acting at its meeting Thursday, the Kane School Board authorized the installment plan beginning with taxes due later this year.
In the boroughs of Kane and Mt. Jewett along with Wetmore and Hamilton townships, property-owners can make their installment payments on Sept. 15, Oct. 15 and Nov. 15.
In Highland Township and the Lamont section of Jones Township in Elk County, the installment payments are due Aug. 15, Sept. 15 and Oct. 15.
Here are conditions linked with the installment plan:
*Delinquent taxes are not eligible.
*No discount is offered.
*All payments must be made before delinquent taxes are turned over to the county for collection Dec. 31.
*Annual tax notices sent to property-owners will outline the installment option.
School Board President Dave Westerburg joined with board members Stephanie Eckstrom, Dick Coleman, Larry Lamping, Harry Steele, Gary Ziegler and Ed Kocjancic in approving the installment plan for school taxes.
Board members Ken Kane and Mark Paup did not attend the meeting.
In other business at the hour-long meeting at the Kane Middle School auditorium, the school board:
*Received copies a proposed school budget for 2012-13. The board is expected to act May 10 to adopt a preliminary spending plan for the school fiscal year beginning July 1. The budget proposal will be available for public inspection before the board adopts a final spending plan in June.
*Received notice that three teachers are planning to retire at the end of the current school year.
The retiring teachers include: Debbie Wensel, middle school math; Becky Christian, fourth grade at the Kane Elementary school; and Sue Grolemund, fifth grade at the Kane Elementary School.
