James H. Gross

James H. Gross, 84, of 5 Bridge St., formerly a lifelong resident of Bradford, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at the Sena Kean Manor.
Born Aug. 18, 1927, in Bradford, he was a son of the late William Clayton and Frances Long Gross.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as an infantry cook.
He was a member of the Bradford Baptist Church and more recently attended the Kushequa Union Church and the Mt. Jewett Assembly of God Church. He had worked in the oil fields before he started his sales career at B&B Electric. Later, he was employed as a chef at the Seneca Casino.
He was a former member of the ski patrol at Wing Hollow in Allegany, N.Y. and enjoyed Alpine skiing, water skiing, boating and hunting.
Surviving are a son, James Gross Jr. of Bradford; a granddaughter, Dania Lee Gross of Buffalo, N.Y.; a grandson, Scott Sipko of Bradford; his best friend and companion, Martha Ohlson of Mt. Jewett; a brother, John (Sally) Gross in South Carolina; three stepchildren, Karen Sipko of Bradford, Carl Vanerstrom of Bradford, David Vanerstrom of Davenport,Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his ex-wife Gerry; his wife, Frances; and three brothers, Clayton Gross, Fred Gross and Larry Gross.
Funeral services will be held at a future date to be announced.
