James L. “Jim” Gibson

James L. “Jim” Gibson, 75, of 336 Reynolds St., Kane and 4414 Twin Lakes Dr., Melbourne, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at his Florida residence.Born Oct. 7, 1936, in Kane, he was a son of the late Raymond F. and Gladys Johnson Gibson. On Sept. 28, 1984, in Kane, he married Linda Albright who survives.Jim, a graduate of Kane High School class of 1954, served four years in the U.S. Air Force.Before retirement, he was the  postmaster at the Kane Post Office. He later drove the ATA bus and also volunteered at Kane Community Hospital and Wuesthoff Medical Center in Melbourne.An avid baseball fan, Jim worked at the Washington Nationals spring training facility. He also coached little league and Legion baseball and was an umpire, as well.Additionally, he was a past commander and financial officer for the American Legion Post 250, a member of the VFW Lodge 1132, the Moose Lodge #130, and a 50-year member of the Kane BPO Elks #329.He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church at Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.Surviving, in addition to his wife, Linda, are seven children, Sherri (Stuart) Siegel of Erie, Steve Gibson of Kane, TJ (Rhonda) Gibson of Melbourne, Fla., Scott (Kathy) Gibson of Kane, Mark (Florence) Mishler in Kuwait, Michelle Oswalt of Alexandria, Va. and Mike (Sara) Mishler of Woodbridge, Va.; and 14 grandchildren, Rene, Chad, Zoe, Grant, Shane, Tyler, Kellen, EJ, Michael, Jimmy, Alex. Ethan, Jeninie and Jennifer.His parents preceded him in death.Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev.
