James W. McMurray

James W. McMurray, 86, of Concord, N.C., passed away after a serious illness, Nov. 26, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center, in Charlotte, N.C.
He was born Oct. 24,1925, in Bridgeville, and resided in Kane for 33 years, and moved to North Carolina from Myrtle Beach, S.C., five years ago. Mr. McMurray was the son of the deceased James and Clara McMurray.
He was an employee of West Penn Power Company in Kane, as an electrician for 30 years, retiring in 1986. Mr. McMurray served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Concord, N.C.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Evelyn Mercedes McMurray of Concord, N.C.; a son, Russ McMurray of Whitehall; a daughter, Joy Snyder of Concord, N.C.; a son, Brian McMurray of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Charles McMurray of Pittsburgh; a brother Robert McMurray of Portersville; a sister, Ruth Douglas of Kane; a sister, Clare Kress of McDonald; eight granddaughters, three grandsons, five great-granddaughters, and five great-grandsons also survive.
A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at Epworth United Methodist Church in Concord, N.C. The family will receive guests at 1 p.m., with the service following at 2 p.m.
At the family's request contributions may be made to Epworth UMC Memorial Fund, 1030 Burrage Road, NE, Concord, N.C. 28025, in Memory of Mr. McMurray.
