Joan L. Swanson

Joan L. Swanson, 70, of 633 Wood St., Kane, passed away unexpectedly at St. Vincent's Medical Health Center on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012.
Born Feb. 24, 1942, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Melvin and Edla Gustafson Carlson. On April 25, 1964, in Kane, she married Ronald Swanson, who survives.
Mrs. Swanson was primarily a homemaker but in the past had been employed by New Process in Warren and Walker Printing in Kane. She was a member of Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church where she once had taken care of the Sunday School nursery.
Joan loved her pets and enjoyed bird-watching and working in her garden. She and her husband, Ron, had raised their granddaughters, Allena and Victoria Swanson, and were very active in their lives.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, is a daughter, Stephanie (Ed) Chandler of Kane; a son, Douglas (Lisa) Swanson of Oil City; two granddaughters, Allena  and Victoria Swanson; two grandsons, Douglas Swanson Jr. and William Swanson; a step grandson, Matthew Chandler;  a sister, Avis Ellingrod of Ypsilanti, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death, besides her parents, by a brother-in-law, Robert Ellingrod.
Friends will be received on Monday, Nov. 19 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. where a Celebration of Joan's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
