John W. Stewart

John W. Stewart, 93, of 541 Hacker St., Kane, died early Thursday morning, Aug. 11, 2011 at his residence.
Born Nov. 12, 1917 in Kane, he was the son of Walter A. and Dora D. Smith Stewart. On April 12, 1946 in East Kane, he married Astrid M. Swanson, who died in 1998.
Mr. Stewart served in the U.S. Air Corps during WWII, reaching the rank of sergeant. Later, he was a set-up man at Holgate Toy Co., then a shipping clerk at Stackpole Corp., both in Kane, then was manager of the Kane Manor.
He was a member of Tabor Ev. Lutheran Church in Kane and of the American Legion and VFW #1132 in Kane.
Surviving are a stepson, Ronald E. Swanson, and a son, Michael Stewart, both of Kane; two daughters, Barbara Kimbrough and Mollie Rich, both of Kane; a sister, Sara Besecker of Palmyra, Va.; and a brother, James Stewart of Farmville, Va. Seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
Preceding him in death, besides his wife and parents, are a grandson, Jesse Kimbrough; sisters Gladys Hayes, Martha Fox and Ella Knapp; and brothers Edward, Charles and Thomas Stewart.
Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Tabor Lutheran Church with the rev. David Pflieger, chaplain of The Lutheran Home at Kane, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Kane.
