Joseph S. Sivak

Joseph S. Sivak, 80, of 320 Haines St., passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Lutheran Home at Kane where he was a recent resident.
Born April 24, 1931, in Binghamton, N.Y., he was a son of Mathias and Anna Rohlicek Sivak. On June 30, 1956, in Kane, he married Carol Zimmerman who preceded him in death.
He had worked at Holgate before entering the U.S. Army where he served during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Upon his return, he again was employed by Holgate, later by Stackpole and finally worked for Kane Magnetics until his retirement.
Joe always had a smile on his face and was there for anyone who ever needed him. He was a simple, genuine man and a loving and caring father and grandfather. He enjoyed attending his grandson’s football and baseball games
Surviving are a daughter, Cheri (Robert) Vaughn; a son, Joseph Sivak; a grandson, Michael Sivak; and a sister, Anne McDowell, all of James City; three sisters-in-law, Beverly Sivak and Mae Allen of Kane, and Barbara Sivak of Erie; and several nieces and nephews, also survive.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his wife and parents, by two brothers, Frank Sivak and Matthew Sivak.
Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Callistus Catholic Church with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at St. Callistus Cemetery.
