Numerous studies have shown that "buying locally" strengthens the economic base for a community.
That's why Kane area residents are being asked to show more support for their own local hospital.
"We really need to stick together and pull together," Gary Rhodes said Thursday. He has worked at Kane Community Hospital (KCH) for 25 years and has been the chief executive officer (CEO) for the past 16 years.
In remarks at a Kane Chamber of Commerce forum at the Flickerwood Wine Cellars in Wetmore Township, Rhodes said at least 60 percent of the 230 employees at KCH reside in Kane. He said this means the local residents who work at KCH are paid at least $6 million annually that is pumped into the Kane economy.
