HERSHEY - The Kane country teams finished the season at the state meet in Hershey on Saturday.
Taylor Beimel, Kristen Boyer, Avery Colson and Jon Gelsick all competed in the event, and all would have fine races in the final race of the year.
In the girls' AA race, it seemed as though the competition was an exercise in deja vu. Homer Center's Angel Piccirillo, national elite and Villanova-bound athlete, would win the race as a repeat of last year. Elk County Catholic's Kennedy Weisner also repeated a second-place finish. Finally, not to be outdone, St. Marys' Adair Genocro finished third overall, another repeat from last year's race.
Beimel was Kane's first finisher in 21:06 a season best, and good enough for 71st place. Boyer, who was making her first appearance at the state meet, finished in 156th with a time of 22:10, a personal best. Both Kane competitors started out conservatively, which made for difficult transitions through the massive hoard of girls clogging the narrow runways of the state course. Beimel and Boyer both passed numerous runners in the final stretch to close out solid races in good positions.
