October 19, 2011

Photo by Adam Smelko – Kane's Dan Blackmore paces himself on the way to a personal best time of 19:49 during the cross country meet held in Ridgway. With Blackmore finishing in a personal best that effectively lowered the final scoring position of the wolves by upwards of 35 seconds.

RIDGWAY – In the final dual meet of the season the Kane Wolves cross country team competed at Ridgway against the St. Mary’s Flying Dutch, the Brockway Rovers and the Ridgway Elkers.
In middle school action, Colton Barr once again led the way for the Wolves running a time of 12:42 and finishing 15th overall. The following runners, all members of the girls’ middle school team, finally had enough members to score and compete as a team in the race. Shyanne Blankenship and Jordan Race held down solid one and two finishes for the Wolves, running times of 13:14 and 13:15 respectively. Olivia Blackmore finished next with a time of 13:55, scoring 12 points for the team, while Courtney Peters would finish next in a time of 13:58, teaming for a tandem finish with Blackmore. The Wolves’ final finisher was Brandi Wheatley, who finished the course in 18:43. The girls’ team finished third in the team competition.
In the varsity race, only one female finisher for Kane registered as Kristin Boyer finished the course in 22:15, making her the third female finisher in the race, setting an additional career best time.
In the boys’ race, Kane narrowed the gap on St. Marys from earlier in the season (18-43), but couldn’t close enough to seal the victory, as St. Marys won the meet with a score of 27 points while Kane finished with 31. Brockway, the other team present, scored 64. Avery Colson and Chris Hunt led the wolves again with a tandem finish, Colson just edging out Hunt to finish in 18:30, with Hunt finishing in 18:31. Jon Gelsick was the next finisher, battling down the homestretch with St Mary’s runner Dylan Shields.
