Kane is 'honored' by nomination to national panel

February 23, 2012

Ken Kane said Thursday that he is "extremely honored" to be nominated for a seat on a newly-formed advisory committee on land management in U.S. national forests.
"I'm honored they would considered me qualified to serve on the committee," Kane said.
A 1977 graduate of Kane Area High School and a Kane borough resident, Kane has served as vice president of Keith Horn, Inc. consulting foresters since 1994.
He has worked for the Kane-based company since 1983,  a year after he graduated from Penn State University with a degree in forestry.
U.S. Rep. Glenn "GT" Thompson (R-Centre County) announced this week that he has nominated Kane to serve as a member of the National Advisory Committee for Implementation of the National Forest System Land Management Planning Rule.
The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) announced its new forest planning rule in January. The announcement calls for the formation of the committee to advise the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the USFS on implementation of the final rule.
In nominating Kane for the 21-member national committee, Thompson said that the nominee "has a unique perspective of forestry and understands our nation’s need for healthy, well-managed forests"
He said this perspective comes from "living in a small town (Kane) located within the boundaries of the Allegheny National Forest."
After receiving a Bachelor of Science from the School of Forest Resources at Penn State University in 1982, Kane began his career at the university’s Department of Land and Water Resources as a Research Technologist. He started work in the department before graduating from college.
As a consulting forester with Keith Horn, Inc., Kane advises foresters on all aspects of forest management and planning.
