CURWENSVILLE – The Kane Wolves made the long trip to Curwensville to take on a good Golden Tide football team but came away the victims of a 13-6 loss.
Under less than favorable conditions the Wolves would win the toss but deferred until the second half. The young Wolves defense was put to the test right away as Curwensville did what they do best: A big dose of Alex Holland. The running back didn't let the home team down as he ran the ball 15 of the first 17 plays for 60 yards culminating with a touchdown. The long drive consumed 8:38 off the clock all on the ground. The extra point was good for the early 7-0 lead.
Kane would get a nice run back on the kickoff from Jonah Smith to the 45-yard line. Tyler Burdick would make a couple nice runs of four yards but on 3rd-and-2 the pass was incomplete and the Wolves were forced to punt back to a fired up Tide offense.
The Wolves defense would be put to the test again as the Tide surprised everyone as they got a huge 30-yard pass completion for a big first down. Curwensville would then go back to the ground game and again controlled the clock and the ball for 6:30 and 13 plays. On the drive the Tide were able to pick up key first downs on fourth down. Then with 6:22 left in the half Holland would again find the end zone but the extra point failed as Curwensville took a 13-0 lead.Â
Kane would respond with a nice pass from Sean Jordan to Jeff Kocjancic for 19 yards then on a big third down, Jordan would find an open Tyler Ennis for a beautiful 26-yard completion. Kane now had the crowd and the team on their side cheering as another big third down conversion this time to went Tyler Burdick. The hopes dimmed some as the Wolves would fumble the ball and Curwensville would run the clock out and take a 13-0 lead into halftime. Â
