A Kane woman was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle traffic accident on Route 6 near Dyne Excavating in Wetmore Township west of Kane.
Lindy Lydic, 33, of Kane was pronounced dead at the scene by McKean County Deputy Coroner Sam Cummings Jr. of Kane.
Three occupants in the second vehicle sustained minor injuries, according to State Police. The occupants included Jason Barner, 38, of Wetmore Road in Hamilton Township, his 12-year-old daughter and his 7-year-old son. Barner is a science teacher and head football coach at Kane Area High School.
Lydic was a computer technology teacher at the Sheffield Middle-Senior High School for the past four years, according to Amy Beers, who is in her first year as principal at the 350-student school. Beers said grief counseling is being made available for students at the Sheffield school.
According to State Police, Lydic was westbound on Route 6 in a 2006 Subaru Forester. Barner was traveling east in a 2006 Nissan Titan, police said.
State Police said Lydic lost control of her vehicle on a section of partial slush on the roadway edge and began to spin counterclockwise while crossing over into the eastbound lane. Police said the passenger side of the Lydic vehicle impacted the front of the Barner vehicle, causing disabling damage and a sudden stop of both vehicles. Occupants in both vehicles wore seat belts, police said.
Barner and his two children were transported by ambulance to Kane Community Hospital.
State Police Trooper Lance Schimp investigated the accident at 7:34 a.m. Thursday. The Kane Volunteer Fire Department provided traffic control, police said. This section of Route 6 was closed for about three hours, police said.
Lydic is not a native of Kane. According to her Facebook site on the internet, she is from Williamson in Wayne County in Upstate New York.
