The Kane Lady Wolves brought home a sweep of the DCC Cardinals to even their record at 1-1.
The Wolves never let DCC take control of any games as they defeated them in three 25-14, 25-17, 25-15.
"We played a little methodically but a little lax at times but we got the job done and managed to stay in control of the match," said Kane head girls varsity volleyball coach Judy Kessler. "At some point in each game, we took over and ran up points to finish the games strongly."
With more consistent passing and aggressive serving and attacking, the Lady Wolves showed their potential.
In set one, the teams traded points to a 10-7 lead as the team combined for five kills and three aces. The Cardinals came back with points to take an 11-10 lead but the Wolves got two to go ahead. Down 13-14, the momentum shifted and the Wolves took the reigns. With seven strong serves from libero Nicole Shrubb, the Wolves took a commanding 20-14 lead.
Cassie Whittemore put down her two kills of the match, Audie Perry got her third kill and put up a block while Shrubb got one ace. Perry added her last kill for point 21. Angie Geer had her second kill of the game as Whittemore served up two aces to put the team at game point. A Cardinal mistake finished off the final point.
In the second set the Wolves accumulated a lot of points while DCC struggled to pass. Perry had two attack points and Moran two aces en route to an 11-8 lead. Kaila Jamerson added one for point 12. Up 14-13, the Wolves again took control of the set as Shannon Kocjancic served up 6 points (1 ace) and Katelyn Moran had a kill and Perry a quick attack kill. At 20-14, the Wolves kept control and went on a 5 point run with Whittemore serving (1 ace) and Perry adding two more quick attacks. Kocjancic kept the rally alive with a great dig of a DCC attack before Perry put down the last point.
