The Kane girls’ soccer team played some very good soccer during Wednesday’s contest against Smethport.
Unfortunately, they did not play consistently good soccer for long periods of time during the game, and wound up on the losing end of a 5-3 score.
The Lady Wolves started out strong, with the bulk of the early action taking place in front of the Smethport goal. Taylor Bucheit got Kane’s first decent scoring opportunity when Shyanne Todd cleared a ball nearly the length of the field and Bucheit caught up with it before the goalie could make a stop.
Nerissa Rich and Dawn Saquin also had some quality chances in the first five minutes, but just could not connect for the Lady Wolves. Smethport’s Maggie Costa changed the momentum nearly midway through the first half when she launched a shot from outside of the penalty area that found the corner of the net.
