Laverne "Jack" Vanderneck

Laverne "Jack" Vanderneck, 85, of 162 Delaware Ave., James City,  passed away at his residence on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.
Born Aug. 25, 1927, in Halsey, he was a son of Gus and Mame Freeman Vanderneck. On June 19, 1948, in James City, he married Millie Punk, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Vanderneck was an operations engineer for Tennecco. During World War II, he served as a gunner aboard the Newman K. Perry.
He was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church, the Kane Senior Center, The Knights of Columbus Council #715, and the Kane VFW Lodge #1132.
Surviving are four daughters, Jackie (Charles) Vaughn of James City, Judy (Michael) Petruney of Kane, Sherry (William) Jones of Kane and Jody (Joe) Mashensic of Cherry Grove; four granddaughters, Shelly Petruney, Sherry (David) Vetter, Sarah (Scott) Colson and Susie (Chris) Nicholas; four grandsons, Matt (Heather) Vaughn, Mike (Sabrina) Mashensic, Gus Mashensic and Joe (Cassie) Mashensic; a step grandson, Robert (Cheri) Vaughn; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray "Gus" Vanderneck of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Janice Varisano of Long Island, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, George (Judy) Punk of James City; several nieces and nephews; and a very good friend, Brenda Emer.
In addition to his wife, Millie Vanderneck, and parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Patty Petruney; a brother, Richard Vanderneck; and a sister, Lorraine Chotkowski.
Friends and family will be received Saturday, Jan. 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the gathering space of St. Calllistus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Callistus Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. John's & St. Stephen's Chapel in James City, the McKean County SPCA, 80 Glenwood Avenue, Bradford, PA 16701 or the Kane Senior Center.
