Leonard W. Slocum
Leonard W. Slocum, 88, formerly of Mt. Jewett, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the Lutheran Home at Kane.Born July 8, 1923, in Lynch, he was a son of the late Walter and Olive Crain Slocum.Mr. Slocum had been employed as an oil field worker for Pennzoil. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army, 291st Infantry Regiment, 75th Division, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.He grew up in Wolf Run then resided in Gifford for over 40 years. For the last 15 years, before entering the Lutheran Home, he lived in Mt. Jewett.He was a member of the Mt. Jewett United Methodist Church and belonged to the Masonic Blue Lodge #749, the Royal Arch Mason Lodge #260, Masonic Council #43, Commandery #58, Red Cross of Constantine and Knight York Christian & Honor, York Rite College #76. He also belonged to the Coudersport Consistory and the Knight Masons and Knight Preceptor.Surviving are his wife, Mary Housler-Slocum and her family; two daughters, Linda Frair of Lewis Run and Judy Pyle of Boynton Beach, Fla.; two grandsons, Scott Hungiville of Mt. Jewett and Lenny Hungiville of Smethport; two granddaughters, Amy Himes of Smethport and Jill Browner of Boca Raton, Fla.; nine great grandchildren; and one nephew.He was preceded in death by his first wife Dora L. Slocum; his parents; and a sister, Mary Yeager.Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Masonic Service will be conducted Wednesday evening. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. W.
