Leroy “Lee” E. Magnuson, 82, of 407 E. Hemlock Avenue, Kane, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at the Warren Manor, after a courageous battle with kidney disease.
Born Dec. 14, 1929, in Kane, he was a son of the late Dwight and Alice Alexis Magnuson. In 1953, he married Carroll Christie who survives.
A graduate of Kane High School Class of 1948, Lee joined the U.S. Marine Corps after school and served during the Korean War.
He was an avid golfer and a lifetime member of the Kane Country Club where he also was a past member of the board of directors. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Additionally, he was a member of the American Legion Post #250, the BPO Elks #329, the VFW Lodge 1132 and the Kane Lodge #566 F & AM.
After his discharge from the Marines he held jobs with WH Christie & Son of Kane, West Penn Power, Erie Trucking Co. and Tayton’s Motor Freight.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Carroll, are a son, Garth Magnuson of Kane; two grandchildren, Ashley and Daniel; two brothers, Bob (Jo) Magnuson and Don (Bev) Magnuson both of Kane; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Magnuson in 1998.
Friends will be received 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and again on Wednesday from 12-2 p.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Nancy Page officiating. Interment will be at Lebanon Cemetery in Kanesholm.
Friends are invited to attend a luncheon at the Kane Country Club following the service.
