Luella D. Ponick

Luella D. Ponick, 88, formerly of Kane, Atlanta, Ga., and Palm Coast, Fla., and a recent resident of the Lutheran Home at Kane, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at the Lutheran Home.
Born Nov. 25, 1922, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Harriet Nichols Johnson. On April 10, 1948, she married Lee C. Ponick who preceded her in death after 57 years of marriage.
Mrs. Ponick served in the U.S. Army during World War II, attaining the rank of 2nd Lt.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had worked at the Kane Community Hospital as a registered nurse.  She was a graduate of the Allegheny Hospital Nursing School.
Surviving are a son Karl Ponick and his wife Deborah of Chesapeake, Va. and a grandson, Nicholas D. Ponick of Atlanta, Ga.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Grasser and Dorothy “Dode” Espin.
Friends will be received on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor of St. Callistus Church, officiating. Burial will be at St. Callistus Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
