Lutheran Home is seeking link with Biddle Street

The Lutheran Home at Kane is seeking permission to link with Biddle Street (Route 6) over an alleged right-of-way known as Lincoln Street Extension.
"Is there a right-of-way and are we permitted to construct a road to improve our land accessibility?" Lutheran Home Administrator Linda Carlson asked in a letter to the Kane Borough Council.
She said the Lutheran Home has the "understanding" that Lincoln Street Extension "comes off Route 6" and extends to the Lutheran Home property at 100 High Point Drive.
This proposed link would give the Lutheran Home two links with Route 6. The only current route is over Clay Street to High Point Drive.
According to Carlson, "other projects" are under discussion at the Lutheran Home. She said the creation of a second link with Biddle Street would "definitely affect future site plans and development."
Carlson told council that the Lutheran Home employs 160 and serves between 20 and 30 children in its K.I.D.S. day care center.
She said a "large number of volunteers and visitors" also are "coming and going on a regular basis" at the Lutheran Home.
Carlson also asked council for its help in having the wooden railroad trestle removed along Biddle Street. The trestle was used by the defunct Knox and Kane Railroad.
The Lutheran Home letter has been referred to council's Public Works Committee.
In other business at its meeting Monday, council:
*Agreed to make repairs at the Spring Creek ditch in Evergreen Park. The Wetmore Township road crew will be asked to help the borough with the project. Under an agreement, the borough crew, in turn, helps with township projects.
The Spring Creek project cost is estimated at $2,421.
*Agreed to seek bids for the sale of 7.62 acres of borough-owned property near Pine Street and White Rock in Wetmore Township.
A professional appraiser values the site at more than $15,000.
