Mabel Mellander

Mabel Mellander, 96, a resident of the Lutheran Home at Kane, and formerly of Mt. Jewett, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at Kane Community Hospital.
Born Jan. 26, 1915, in Johnsonburg, she was a daughter of Edward G. and Anne Hinchliffe Rippon. On Jan. 1, 1939, in Brockway, she married Paul Mellander who preceded her in death.
Before retirement she had worked at Stackpole Carbon. She was a member of the Episcopal Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Michele Mellander of Kane; three grandchildren, David Mellander and Marc Mellander,  both of Harrisburg, and Paul Mellander of Greensboro, N.C.;  four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband and parents, by a son, Charles Mellander; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. David Pflieger, chaplain of the Lutheran Home at Kane, officiating. Burial will be at Bridgeview Cemetery.
