SMETHPORT – A man has been sentenced to life in state prison for killing a mother and her baby in Bradford in 2010.
Waide Eugene Nolf, 40, of Bradford received the sentence Tuesday when he appeared in McKean County Court before Senior Judge William Morgan of Warren.
The case had been scheduled to go trial with jury selection set to begin Tuesday in county court. However, Nolf entered a plea Monday during a pre-trial conference at the county courthouse, a court spokesman said.
County District Attorney Ray Learn was prepared to seek the death penalty for Nolf had the jury returned a guilty verdict at a trial.
Nolf pleaded “no contest” Monday to two charges—murder of the first degree in the death of Tanya Haight, 24, and involuntary manslaughter in the death of her baby girl.
