Margaret D. Anderson

Margaret D. Anderson, 89, a resident of the Lutheran Home at Kane, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Kane Community Hospital.
Born April 2, 1922, in Johnsonburg, she was a daughter of Thomas M. and Pearl Johnston Dougherty. On Aug. 18, 1956, in Kane, she married Richard “Dick” Anderson who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Anderson served as a nurse’s aide with the Waves in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
She was a member of Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and also belonged to the Kane Garden Club, Kane Country Club, Kane Elk’s Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a volunteer at Kane Community Hospital and was a blood donor for many years.
With her late husband, Dick Anderson, she owned and operated the former Kane Pure Ice Co. She also had worked at Stackpole Carbon Co., Kane Community Hospital and for the National Forest Service.    
Surviving are four sons, Harold “Butch” Anderson, John Anderson and Randy (Yvonne) Anderson, all of Kane and Rick Anderson of San Diego, Calif.; one grandson; six granddaughters; three sisters, Mary Dougherty of Kane, Marie Swanson of Wilcox and Lorraine Craig of San Bernadino, Calif.; a brother, Robert Dougherty of Kane; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Dougherty and John Dougherty; two sisters, Katherine Nordahl and Winifred Smiley; and her grandson, Tony Anderson.
Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held at Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday with The Rev. William Waterman, pastor, and the Rev. David Pflieger, co-officiating. Burial will be at Kanesholm Cemetery.
