Martha Jane Sarvey, 91, formerly of Mt. Jewett, passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 at the Summerville (S.C.) Medical Center.
She was born in Brookville on Oct. 23, 1919 to the late Walter Nolph and Myrtle Schreckengost Nolph. She married to George A. Sarvey Sr.
She is suvived by her two children, Suzanna (Rodney) Gordon of North Charleston, S.C. and George (Linda) Sarvey of Lake Forest, Calif; and one sister, Doris (Arnold) Johns of Brookville. Also surviving are six grandchildren including Chris Sarvey of Kane and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, George; and one sister, Dorothy Park.
Mrs. Sarvey was employed as a cashier at Johnson's Red and White supermarket in Mt. Jewett before she and her husband relocated to Summerville following his retirement. An avid reader, she daily read the newspaper and books until her hospitalization. She was a member of the Stallsville United Methodist Church and regularly attended services. She was also an active member of the church's senior citizens group.
A memorial service for Mrs. Sarvey was held Saturday, Sept. 10. Burial followed the service in Dorchester Memorial Gardens.
