A community meeting is planned for Thursday, March 1 on a three-year plan for improvements at Evergreen Park in Kane.
The meeting is slated at 6:30 p.m. at the Kane Area Community Center on Fraley Street.
A group known as the “Friends of Evergreen Park” will conduct the public meeting along with members of the Kane Borough Council’s Parks Committee.
Dick Bly, chairman of the “Friends” group and a former Kane borough councilman, said the public would be asked for input on the proposed three-year plan for the park.
He said the “goal” of the park volunteers is to “work in conjunction with borough council and the community to develop and implement a three-year plan” for the park.
The proposed plan includes:
First year—
*Continue maintenance of the wooden Enchanted Playland.
*Complete a walkway on Birch Street and Park Avenue to accommodate pedestrians, baby strollers, cross-country skiers and joggers.
The proposed project calls for the use of $42,000 in federal community development block grant (CDBG) funds for Kane.
*Build a combination gazebo/outdoor theatre with $10,000 in CDBG funds.
*Paint the fence at the tennis courts.
*Begin planting wildflowers and landscape “natural” areas in the park. The Kane Garden Club would be involved in this project.
*Work with the borough Shade Tree Commission to remove dead trees and plant new trees in the park.
*Repair bleachers at the T-ball field.
Second year—
