More improvements are planned at Evergreen Park

December 15, 2011

More improvements are being planned for Evergreen Park in Kane.
The “Friends of Evergreen Park” group has been concentrating its efforts on repairing the wooden Creative Playland, which had been targeted for demolition.
The organization is widening its scope to include improvements to other area of the park.
“It’s a great park,” Dick Bly, president of the “Friends of Evergreen Park,” told the Kane Borough Council earlier this week. “We want to make it better.”
Council previously had plans to demolish the wooden Playland and replace it with traditional playground equipment. But this proposal met opposition from those who believe the Playland should remain.
The park “Friends” group was formed to tackle needed repairs at the Playland to save it from the wrecking ball.
“We’re continuing to work on the Playland and the entire park,” Bly told council.
Bly said the “Friends” group has come up with several ideas for improvements at Evergreen Park. He said the group hopes to meet with council’s Parks Committee to “make sure we’re going in the same direction.”
Bly also proposed a “town meeting” to “share” the ideas “with the community.” No date has been set for this forum.
Bly said the “Friends” group also is hoping to attract “private donations” for the park to “take the burden off taxpayers.”
A former councilman, Bly said the “Friends” group also is willing to work with the borough’s Shade Tree Commission and the Kane Garden Club to develop ideas for improving the park.
