Mt. Jewett check station processes 45 bears on opening day of harvest

This bear was shot by Dan Oakes of Bradford and had an estimated live weight of 152 pounds. As of 3 pm, only nine bears had been checked in by the officials in Mt Jewett. Pennsylvania hunters have two more days left to bag their bear, as the season concludes Tuesday.

MT. JEWETT – A total of 45 bears harvested throughout five different counties were processed at the Pennsylvania Game Commission's bear check station in Mt. Jewett on Saturday, the opening day of this year's four-day bear season. Of those bears, the majority-- 31-- were female, and most had been harvested in McKean County.
