Myrtle L. Harris
Myrtle L. Harris, 67, of Oak Lane, passed away on Sunday evening, Sept. 11, 2011, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. She was born Nov. 5, 1943, in Braddock, a daughter of the late Wallace G. and Rosaline A. (Heinz) Schleicher. On April 30, 1972, she married Ralph W. Harris Sr. who preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 2010. Earlier in her life she had been employed as a waitress and a nursing care assistant. She retired after more than 20 years of service as a truck driver with Shaffer Trucking. She was one of the earliest female drivers and was proud of receiving a One Million Mile safe driving award. She was a member of Hummel’s United Methodist Church, Middleburg. Myrtle enjoyed sewing and cooking. The light of her life were her grandchildren. She is survived by four sons and one daughter-in-law, Mark Wallace Harris, Ralph Harris Jr., and William Harris, all of Middleburg, and Matthew and Nicole Harris, of Sunbury; seven stepchildren and their spouses, Daniel and Denise Harris, of Arizona, Arthur and Kitty Harris, of Landisburg, Juanita and Terry Newman, of Winfield, Dorothy and Carson Maneval, of Mount Pleasant Mills, Christine Benner, of Harrisburg, John and Nancy Harris, of Freeburg, and Mark and Irene Harris, of Middleburg; six grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Morrison of Kane, and Hilda Howard of Warren; four brothers, George, Louis, William and Bobby Schleicher, all of Kane. She was preceded in death by one brother, Wallace Schleicher, and one stepgranddaughter. A funeral service was conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hummel’s United Methodist Church, Middleburg, with the Rev. Carvel K. May officiating.
