Ready for blood donors

January 23, 2013

April Smith (left) and Shannon McCray (right), both donor collection phlebotomists with the Erie-based Community Blood Bank, prepare for a blood donor Tuesday at a blood collection stop at the Kane Area Community Center on Fraley Street.

The Community Blood Bank collects blood on the fourth Tuesday of every other month at the Kane Area Community Center. The next blood collection at the center is Tuesday, March 26 from noon to 5 p.m. The Community Blood Bank will hold a collection Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kane Community Hospital. Donors are welcome and needed due to the critical shortage of blood, especially "O" negative, a Blood Bank spokesman said. The Blood Bank supplies blood to area hospitals, including Kane Community Hospital. For more information on donating blood, contact the Blood Bank at 1-877-842-0631 (toll free).
